Living Tarot 2012
Saturday, June 9th at the Pagan Picnic:
Meet up at the Amtgard booth at 3pm. We go on at 4pm.
Still collecting cards, so if you want to jump in let me know.
The Amtgard booth will likely have big butterfly wings visible, and lots of people whacking each other with boffers behind it. It's right in the middle of the merchant row.
We're "supposed" to be in the ritual area which has zero shade. I plan to post a sign directing people to our usual spot.
Do not forget the following:
Chair (if you need it.)
Hydration (YOU NEED IT.)
Sunblock (you NEED it.)
If you need a prop or costume piece please let me know and I'll try to make sure to bring it. The sub-theme this year is "Dragons". I will have four (yes FOUR) pairs of "dragon" wings to share, maybe more.

This Year's Plan
The Living Tarot:
First 2012 Appearance will be at Lothlorien's Elf Fest. Still waiting to hear back from the Elves as to when we will be scheduled during the event.
Second 2012 Appearance will be at the annual St. Louis Pagan Picnic, as usual. What is not usual is our timing: We will appear at 4pm on Saturday, June 9th, 2012. The plan is to meet up by 3pm. Location will be posted closer to the event. We will be required to "gather in the ritual space" which is not where we usually go. My plan is to bring a giant sign to put in the Ritual Space that directs everyone where to go, to our usual space.
What else is not usual is this year's Crazy Idea: It is the year of the Dragon, let us use the wisdom of the Dragon as our inspiration this year! Dress as a dragon, carry a dragon, wear something with a dragon motif, use a dragon sculpture as part of your presentation, or simply find some draconian wisdom to share as part of your card.
Speak up if there is a particular card that calls to you this year!

This year's Living Tarot was a lot of fun!
I was very excited when I saw how dynamic this year's group was. Thank you, all of you, for
participating in this year's Living Tarot!
I recently dreamed about doing this again at a larger art festival of some kind, so if I see an
opportunity, I will post something here.alienzen
has pictures up on his Flickr account
, and I'm still working on uploading mine.
If anyone else has photos, please post links here.
I'll be working on this year's "cards" soon.

Meeting this Sunday at Borders on Olive
6pm at the Cafe
Feel free to bring any props or costumes you wish to show off, but don't worry about having things "approved". Be sure to ask me SOONER rather than later if you need me to provide any props or costumes for you.
I do not wish to post everyone's name here, so I will refer you to the Yahoo group for double-checking The List.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/livingtarot/
Ask and you shall be accepted.
The Living Tarot will happen NEXT weekend, June 8th. Be there by NOON. Check in at the Tricia's Treasure Chest booth (look for the games and the butterfly wings.)
We are slated for 1-3pm. I expect 30 minutes of set-up and 30 minutes of "break-down" time, so we will be actually interactive for about an hour.
The bags for the seeds are finished, and this year we'll make sure that the Devil has candy.
Feel free to bring a chair as part of your tableau, if it seems appropriate. You may also sit or lay upon the ground, or stand.

Saturday sewing reminder
We are still planning to make some fabric bags with the images from the major archana of the Tarot on them, for the Living Tarot.
This Saturday we're going to go to Lion's Choice (on Olive) for lunch at noon, and then troupe over to the store to sew at 1pm. Anyone can meet up with us at either place. From 1-5pm at the Jackman's Fabrics on Lindbergh, we're going to be sewing these bags together. I'm spending the evenings this week printing the images of the cards onto fabric, and we're going to cut and sew little rectangular bags with long shoulder straps on them.
Anyone who participates will learn how to make a simple bag, and we'll get to use the store's classroom machines (which are completely drool-worthy, let me tell you!)
Any that are not finished may either be taken home and worked on separately, or I will finish them myself at Family Sewing Day on Sunday in Jefferson City.
Please let me know if you can come and sew with us!

Pick card, any card...
Ok, I have 13 unassigned cards. I usually hold myself in reserve to play a leftover card, and Sue (last year's "the World") has offered to also be a "wild card", so we'll probably take the leftover cards on the day of the event.
The Boy (thesigother
's son) hasn't settled on a card yet, but made an offer to be The Tower.
I haven't heard from baka_dragon
yet, either, but they're justifiably distracted by their own wedding.
I also haven't heard from BloodDoll (Last year's Empress) as to what card she prefers, but she is interested.
Last year's "Justice" will likely join us again. I am hoping that her Significant Other will also join us for some fun!
So that leaves...
Six unassigned cards.
Speak to your friends, talk to your gaming groups, LARP groups, etc. Six cards and we have a full set!

Also please to be with the Voting kthx...
On the LivingTarot Yahoogroup, there is a poll up. I am asking which card you wish to portray in the Living Tarot, or if you wish to provide support with photography or similar tasks.
Only three people have voted so far. I do need to know who is participating, and which card you choose. I will open this up to the public at large very soon, as the event is in early June and we are fast approaching early May.Go Here.
if you are not already signed up, sign up and vote, please.
Jackman's Fabrics has given me a green light for a Saturday afternoon sewing
May 17th, from 1:30 to 5pm (we probably won't need that much time) we will be
tarot-card printed fabric into bags to wear during the Living Tarot.
I will be providing the fabric, thread, cookies, and bottled water.
Jackman's Fabrics (1234 N. Lindbergh) will be providing the tables, chairs, sewing
and cutting mats/rotary cutters.
You will be providing the assistance, enthusiasm, and conversation!
I think we can get the bags done (or mostly done) if we work together. Jackman's
has 12 sewing machines available (and six sergers!)
We can probably serge the things together, then sew the handles on. Or sew the
bags together and line them nicely.
I'll work out a model, and then we can make the bags!
I need to have a head-count. Who is interested in helping create bags?
No sewing experience necessary. I will teach you anything you need to know, so
to take advantage of the *FREE SEWING LESSON*!!

Dates announced for the St. Louis Pagan Picnic
They've moved it back to June.
The St. Louis Pagan Picnic
will be held June 7th and 8th, 2008.
We are planning to return once again. I will place a poll up soon, to determine who will play which card. Start considering what image you wish to portray!
We are also planning to have a sewing session at Jackman's Fabrics on a Sunday morning (sometime reasonably soon) so that we can make bags to carry the seeds. Each bag will have an image of the Rider-Waite cards on them.
|Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007|
reminded me that I have a project in the works.
This won't probably happen until past the first of the year due to Holiday Madness.
I plan to make fabric bags for each of the tarot cards in the Living Tarot. My thought was that if we make a small bag with a long strap to run over a shoulder, and put the seeds in there we won't be fumbling with props and a bag.
Rather than make them all identical, I am going to use the specialty fabric we sell at my fabric store which lets you print whatever you want using an inkjet printer. Each card would have a bag with their card printed on it to hold their seeds.
However, that's more than 20 bags and this would go faster if I had help.
Since I work at a fabric store, I am working on an arrangement that allows us to use the sewing machines and cutting facilities to accomplish this.
So anyone who can cut a straight line or sew a straight line on a sewing machine is welcome to help out with this project. We're going to get access to the sewing machine classroom on a Sunday morning and work on these bags. The pattern is very simple, and I can show everyone how to sew the bags together.
So, if we put this project together, how many of you would be willing to help out?

weather looks good
According to Yahoo:
Saturday: Generally sunny. High 89F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s.
So, dress for hot weather and bring an umbrella.

Saturday: Living Tarot people are not required to attend the Pagan Picnic, but feel free to do so. If you would like to come and help out with the Treasure Chest booth, you are all entirely welcome. Saturday Schedule is as follows:
8:30 am: I intend to arrive around this time to start setting up the booth. The Treasure Chest has a booth that is 30X10, and 1/3 of it will be taken up with the Tree Of Life Wellness area run by Sue Overkamp.
2/3 of it will be face painting, trinket sales, and carnival games.
I do think it would be neat if I had some of the living Tarot people in their costumes promoting the Living Tarot on Sunday, but I don't want everyone's gear to get all sweaty.SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!
If you want to help out with the booth, please arrive at 10am.
If you are only doing the Living Tarot, please be at the booth by Noon.
You do not have to be dressed up at Noon, but be prepared to change in a port-a-potty. (If I can manage a changing tent, I will do my best to do so. Don't count on it, though.)
The Living Tarot is scheduled for 1pm. At 20 minutes to 1 we will head to our area and start setting up.
We are only scheduled until 3pm, so at that point we will close the circle and leave.
1. Please bring your own costumes and props. If you need costume pieces or props, remind me now so that I can put together a complete list.
2. If you need (or want) a chair, please bring it yourself.
3. Don't forget a bottle of water. Let's not dehydrate out there or become hoarse.
4. If your costume is something that will make you hot, please bring a change of clothing.
5. Despite its size, the booth has limited space. I can offer some storage but not very much. Please try to arrange safe places to store your stuff, or put it in your car when you're not performing.
